or can school me about filing a complaint?
Not asking for leagal advice, just advice/opinions. If interested see below, if not no hard feelings.
For perspective: I work on the road. (TV Truck) I'm gone between 285 and 300 days a year. My wife is left to handle the 3 kids and the home. She works part time at the local elementary school in the kitchen washing dishes. It's "seasonal" no big deal but gives here summers with the kids when they are out of school. Before she took the job last year she explained to her boss this situtation. When the kids are sick she is the one that has to take care of them and that I travel. We have no extended family or friends to watch the kids in this situtation. She ask specifically if that was going to be a problem. Her boss said no, that everyone understood that family came first.
Last spring one of our kids got sick for a couple of days (she only had one sick day acumulated). She provided the doctor letter etc. She was hauled in and written up for missing work. Her boss then began to tell her what she was to do with our children and how to run our household. That's where I got involved. I went to the b's boss and let him have it. Needless to say this caused more problems as she has rode my wife like a rented mule and is constantly threatening to terminate her, 3 times now in 12 months. Has falsified some docs to make my wife to have appeared late to work (no time clock to punch) Wife had witnesses to as to being on time but no one to stick up for her. There is much much more, but I shall spare you all the bordom.
Most of the time I would say screw it move on. However, this woman has sooooo pissed me off past the point of me being passive. Our paticular area there really arn't that many jobs and certainly none that work with our situtation like this one. Not to mention, we need the xtra income.
My personal opinion on this is that her boss is creating a hostile work enviorment. My research so far has led me to the first step of filing a complaint with the EEOC. They will then either mediate it or tell you whether you have or have not a leg to stand on in court.
