Well WD40 won't shift it, so I got this industrial strength lubricant called PX40, through work.

I got underneath and gave the whole thing a damn good spray, got a good covering myself.

Then I went and removed the gear knob for the low range box and gaiter, I got my stanley knife and cut away the sound proofing.

Then I got to the rubber covering, almost like another gaiter round the gear leaver, I took the stanley and cut a hole in that too, finally I could see the mechanism.

So I gave the whole lot a good spray again with the PX40.

It goes into low range and back again with no problems at all, but it will absolutly not lock the diffs.

So my thinking is that I am going to have to cut out a section of the plastic next to the gear lever so I can see the whole thing and perhaps get a tool to it like a spanner or screw driver.


I had some advise last week to hammer it with lubricant then get a jack handle on the gear lever and give it a good tug.

Any other thoughts on how I can get access.

hi just purchased a discovery v8 es lpg the other day, got a few bits and bobs that need fixing, the auto dim mirror seems to have leeked out the fluid into itself and is dark now, cant seem much out of it, any one know how to remove it? would much appreciated! :)

Hi, I have a problem with my brake light / reverse light fuse blowing as soon as I select reverse. (Automatic ZF box 2004). I have checked all bulbs, cleaned all contacts except on the gearbox itself. I know there is a reverse light switch on the older auto boxes but I cannot find anything on this with the ZF box? Is there a switch or should I be looking somewhere else. Thanks in advance for any help! Sorry I meant ZF box in title not ZT!!

I"m considering buying a 1997 Disco TDI Auto with 170k to replace my Freelander TD4 Auto.
What should I be looking out for(Corrosion/Wear and tear/Smoke from exhaust etc)
The BMW engine in the Freelander is brilliant, what sort of engine does a 1997
Disco have.
Will I see much difference in the MPG compared to my Freelander.
And are service costs, repairs etc comparable to Freelander costs.
Any advice would be appreciated.

My 2000 disco td5 is not starting all of sudden. After switching off the immobilizer with the key fob, turning the key in the ignition nothing happens. From what I can tell battery is charged. A mechanic checked the starter by manually cranking it and said it was not the starter. He disconnected the battery and after about twenty minutes reconnected it while also checking the electrical current in the ignition area (?), and then reconnected the battery after 20 minutes. It started! After about five or so ours, I went to start the car again, and the problem returned. Turning the key, nothing happens.

Suggestions on how to fix this would be great. Tough to find a good mechanic here in Kenya.

Hi everybody, I’m writing from Chile because, among several things that I’m repairing on my 300Tdi 1996 Disco, I found a small ring with a micro switch and I have not been able to find where and how it should be installed. I have checked the manuals I have several times, also I have checked your forum prior to ask but without any good result. The ring and micro switch was found hanging inside the driver’s door and the only information I found is that the micro switch works with the immobilizer/alarm by a cam on the door’s lock.
I enclosed a picture of the ring and I would thank you very much if somebody could help with some information, hopefully the part number or picture/drawing about how it should be installed (by the way I must tell you the Disco does not respond to the EKA code and I suppose is because of the ring-micro switch is not properly installed).

i was driving back on the m6 doing between 70 and 80 all seamed fine until i lost all drive power , steam was comming from under the bonent and black smoke coming from the rear , the rac bod said it wasnt the head gasket but when pushed he didnt know what the problem was

can anyone put some light on this problem

About to do front n rear disc n pads on my Disco 2,where I think the fronts are going to be ok as have done them on my old 300 tdi not long ago,I have never done rears,a so called LANDIE MAN i know said there is a special tool to winde in the caliper piston?? Is this correct or could i use a small g-clamp and apply pressure to piston to move it? :confused::confused:

Hi Guys, so just had the disco MOT'd and have an advisory on slight play in the passenger side draglink (i think thats what it is the forward most steering bar between hubs!) is this balljoint the same as the steering arm ones as local motor factors only list whole bar :(
