Hi, I've just bought my first P38 Diesel a week ago.

I've had it sat on my drive for a week and this weekend I've been out to fit parking sensors to it, when I was finished I attempted to start the vehicle and was hit by an array of error messages and a none starting engine?

also while I was looking at how I get to the thermostat I noticed the A/C belt missing?? The pump/condenser pulley wheel turns, but feels like it's come free from the pump internals? is it new pump time?

This is my first P38 and having looked around on the internet I'm wondering if I should of bought 1 :doh:

So I finally got round to doing the head gaskets on my P reg 4.0l p38.

Well, the excitement of that first turn of the key was met with - nothing! A few clicks of relays can be heard but nothing else when trying to start.

The battery has obviously been off for a fair while and i'm wondering if i've lost some kind of sync with the becm??

When the ignition key is turned to position 2, all the lights illuminate and the check engine light stays illuminated, is this right?

Any ideas or suggestions welcomed.

Went down road today and from about 90mph onwards i get a vibration that feels like its comming from the gearbox area, could this be the drive shaft? its perfect up to around 90mph. dont want it to catch me out when towing a 2 ton caravan as thats going to put stress on the gearbox and all shafts. its a 4.6 v8 1999. ( i wont be doing 90 mph with the van on):D

Since buying my 1990 RRC Vogue I've got everything working perfectly, except the tachometer, which has never worked.

Is it just as simple as removing the cluster and resoldering a wire or is it a deeper problem ?

I'm on a training course at South Witham, I'II have my Extreme MV with me, so if anyone requires faults reading/clearing in the area. I should be available after 4-30pm. If I can help someone out pm me.

Travelling up tomorrow Sunday and returning Wednesday late afternoon/evening.

From the handbook:

"Under no circumstances must the steering wheel be held on full lock for more than thirty seconds in any one minute, otherwise the steering assembly may be damaged."

Why...? Presumably this only applies when the engine is running? Can one park with the steering on full lock?

Where can I get the leather grained vinyl used on door trims.
92/93 trims if it makes any difference.

Looking to get a touch up pen and spray cans to do some tidying up on my P38 but it has no paint code under the bonnet.

Its a 99 ex police in white

Any ideas?
